Each year, the EA SPORTS? All-American program honors the best high school student-athletes in the nation in nine sports: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, softball, boys and girls soccer and boys and girls golf.
Over the next month, EA SPORTS is bringing the All-American program into households across the nation with an hour-long syndicated television special that will air in almost all major markets in the U.S.
The players on four sports teams already completed?football, boys and girls basketball and girls golf?will be announced in the program with the All-Americans in the other sports to be unveiled later in the summer online.
The format of the show will also include 22 All-American player spotlights in each sport (see list below) as well as features on:
? Elite quarterbacks enrolling in college early to get a jump on the competition
? Ohio State's great boys basketball recruiting class, highlighted by the signing of the No. 1 player in the nation, Greg Oden
? Darby Lentz, a West Virginia football kicker and homecoming queen
? Anthony Robles, the two-time Arizona state wrestler who has only one leg
? Jason McElwain, the inspirational autistic basketball team manager from New York who suited up in the last regular season game and scored 21 points
In addition, viewers will have the opportunity to watch four video clips during the show and then vote online at StudentSports.com to choose the "Most Memorable Play of the Year."
The show is hosted by actor and high school baseball star Tyler Hoechlin, who has starred in film and TV shows such as "Road to Perdition" and "7th Heaven." The Corona, Calif., senior even turned down the opportunity to star in his own UPN show to accept a baseball scholarship to Arizona State University.
The annual EA SPORTS All-American Teams are selected by the editors of Student Sports, which have compiled national rankings in numerous sports for more than 15 years, and include more players in more sports than any other All-American honors program. The selections are based primarily on what happens during the high school season, not on recruiting potential, and generally more closely match all-state teams named throughout the country.
